Sutanovac: With the agreement from Brussels, we get peace for everyone living in Kosovo

The President of the Council for Strategic Policy, Dragan Sutanovac, says that the agreement between Belgrade and Pristina brings peace to all who live in Kosovo, Politika writes.

"All EU countries accepted that plan, even those that did not recognize Kosovo and will not do so. Clear and precise messages have already arrived from Spain and Cyprus that they will not recognize Kosovo's independence," Sutanovac says.

According to him, the agreement does not de facto recognize Kosovo's independence, and there is not a single point in the platform that explicitly mentions recognition. On the other hand, Serbia does not support Kosovo's membership in the UN but cannot prevent it either.

"It is not up to us, but rather the interests of the great powers in the UN Security Council. We are fooling ourselves into thinking that someone in the UN Security Council is protecting our interests. Those countries protect their own interests first, and only then the interests of their allies," Sutanovac points out.

As he says, Serbia has an initiative for the first time, which comes primarily from the US, that Pristina must fulfill the signed obligations.

"The Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM) may not be ideal, but it is the best we have at the moment. The support given by the US to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to implement the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities gives momentum to the entire story, which we must not lose. Unfortunately, I do not expect Kurti to form the CSM, for many reasons. He is not politically aware of the position in which he will put the citizens of Kosovo. He thinks that life and politics in Kosovo start with him, but it is a dead end from which it will be difficult to get out," Sutanovac evaluates and reminds that nevertheless, this time clear messages are coming from Washington, Brussels, and other world power centers that the formation of the CSM is an obligation that must be fulfilled.

He warns that we are once again entering a period of turbulence, which could lead to Kurti's resignation but also to attempts to re-ignite instability and tensions.

"It is a wrong opinion that a war in Kosovo is no longer possible, and this must be communicated openly to Serbian citizens. In Kosovo, even today, they shoot at children who are carrying a Christmas tree, while many on television talk about how we have territorial integrity and sovereignty. Let's talk about life things," Sutanovac says, and also emphasizes that we must not leave Serbia in a bad state for future generations, Tanjug reports.
