Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto, stated today that Budapest will not support Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, RTV reported.

Responding to a question from Tanjug, Szijjarto said that Hungary's position regarding Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe has been clear for some time and that the country wants peace, stability, and security in the Western Balkans.

"We are rooting for the success of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, but we believe that Kosovo’s candidacy for membership in international organizations does not contribute to that dialogue. Hungary will not support Kosovo’s admission to the Council of Europe," Szijjarto said.

Szijjarto met today in Budapest with Serbia's Minister of Economy, Adrijana Mesarovic, with whom he discussed enhancing economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and Hungary.

It was noted that relations between the two countries are the best they have ever been.
