Tenney: Trump told me to send greetings to Serbia and said he hopes to visit
The Co-Chair of the Serbian Caucus in the US House of Representatives, Claudia Tenney, said today, after being awarded the Order of the Serbian Flag, First Class, by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, that US President Donald Trump told her in a phone conversation to send his greetings to Serbia and that he hopes to visit, RTV reports.
Tenney explained that while she was sitting in a restaurant last night, her phone rang, and it was President Donald Trump.
“He was talking to me about something else and then asked, ‘Where are you?’ I told him I was in Serbia, and now I will quote what he said to me: ‘I really like Serbia, send my greetings and tell them I hope to visit someday, hopefully now that the new ambassador is coming,’” Tenney recounted.
She said she was glad to return to Serbia after nearly 40 years and to see many positive changes.
“Thank you to everyone in Serbia, and to President Vucic, for the great changes we have noticed compared to 40 years ago, from the airport to the beautiful buildings and everything that didn’t exist before,” the congresswoman added.
She noted that she first came to Belgrade in 1981 as a student and that she once worked at the consulate of the former Yugoslavia in New York.
“I worked for the former Yugoslav consulate in New York, as well as for the sports department, I covered the Olympic Games in Sarajevo. I’m connected to all the people of the former Yugoslavia. Part of my job at the consulate was to take care of everyone coming from Yugoslavia for sports-related matters,” Tenney said.
