Terras deletes post stating that “Kosovo Assembly has elected its leadership”
European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo Riho Terras has deleted a post on X about his meeting with UNMIK chief Peter Due in which he stated that “the Kosovo Assembly has elected its leadership.”
“After a prolonged political deadlock, the Assembly has elected its leadership. The next major challenge is the election of the president. Kosovo’s stability and dialogue between communities are crucial to its European path,” Terras wrote.
However, the Kosovo Assembly has not elected its full leadership. It has elected only the Speaker, Albulena Haxhiu, but not the five Deputy Speakers. Haxhiu adjourned the session over the Serb List’s nomination and a statement by the party’s parliamentary group leader, Igor Simic, that “on behalf of the Serbian people, he was nominating Slavko Simic for Deputy Speaker.”
The Serb List also pointed this out to Terras in a comment on X:
“Dear Mr Terras, it is absolutely incorrect to claim that the Kosovo Assembly has elected its leadership. The work of the Assembly was blocked by the ruling party, which halted the election of the five Deputy Speakers. Therefore, the Assembly’s leadership remains incomplete.”
Shortly afterward, Terras’s original post was deleted from X.
