Todic: The execution of works is illegal, the locals do not agree with the decisions of the Government in Pristina
The President of the Provisional Institution of Leposavic Municipality, Zoran Todic, conveyed to Kosovo Police Lieutenant Colonel Veton Elshani, who commanded the special units that secured work on the road from the highway from the direction of Leposavic to the hamlet of Zaselje in Lesak, the concerns of the residents of Dren regarding the construction of a new police base in that place.
Todic pointed out in the conversation with Elshani that the execution of the works was illegal and demanded that he informed his superiors that the locals did not agree with the decisions of the Government in Pristina and that they did not want any construction on their properties.
"Here legal procedures were violated before the government made a decision. The people do not agree with the execution of these works," Todic said.
Elshani said that he had talked to the locals and said that the Orthodox cemetery would not be usurped.
"I believe that during the works an agreement can be reached regarding the property. The government has made a decision and the works are continuing; the police are securing the works. We are only following orders," Elshani said.
Elshani's presentation was resented by the gathered locals who demanded that the works be stopped.
"The police should not go through the middle of the village. The people cannot wake up in peace, there are policemen everywhere. This cannot work like this, how to build a base in the middle of a village? This is a silent occupation. How would you react if a base was built in your town," the locals said.
In the meantime, a British KFOR patrol arrived at the place where the residents of Drena had gathered, to which the citizens complained.
"Look, there are armed people with rifles all over the hill, there are 50 policemen who are armed," the locals told the KFOR members.
