Garic: Many Albanians in Kosovo think the US will always support them unconditionally, that's the problem
Americans are losing patience with extreme Albanians, and Kurti is the most drastic example of Albanian arrogance and ingratitude towards those who made everything possible for them, Milos Garic, the editor of the Kosovo Online portal, said for RTS, speaking about the efforts of the US diplomats to raise the issue of forming the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities.
Garic doubts that Kurti's government will understand the messages from Washington well in this regard, even though Pristina has no alternative and risks a lot if it loses an ally such as the US.
"It is illogical, but Kurti is still defiantly resisting requests from Washington to start implementing the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities. He will not give up. Many people in Pristina still think the US will always support them unconditionally. Kurti is breaking down the relations with Washington, he was not invited to the National Prayer Breakfast, and we see that Haradinaj and ten other opposition representatives went, with the aim of putting out the fire. Last night, Haradinaj said that he accepted the CSM formation, he understands the danger," Garic says.
The question arises, he emphasized, whether the meeting at the Pristina embassy is the most that the US can do regarding the CSM at this moment.
"There is no doubt that the US can keep Pristina under control and make decisions even without a partnership with the Kosovo authorities. The UN Security Council Resolution 1244 also makes it clear that the Government in Pristina does not have the mandate to decide independently. They have had that opportunity for the past 20 years given by the West, and Pristina abuses it. Kurti thinks he is smarter than everyone and that he can do everything, and we see what we have come to. An almost hopeless situation," Garic adds.
Regarding the CSM Statute and what was proposed by the German "Friedrich Ebert" Foundation, Garic indicates that the CSM is now being placed in the context of Kosovo as an independent state, which should not be the case according to valid international documents.
"When the Brussels Agreement was drawn up, status-neutral negotiations were conducted. It was envisaged that the CSM would have executive powers, and not be something like a loose community of citizens. The most frequently mentioned word in this draft by "Friedrich Ebert" is "the Constitution of Kosovo". It turns out that it is more important to prove Kosovo's statehood than to secure the Community's authorizations, which should organize and facilitate the life of the Serbs, who are threatened by the daily anti-Serb politics of the Pristina authorities. To make the irony even greater, they are now offering this as a concession to Serbia, and in return, they expect the acceptance of the European plan," Garic emphasizes.
Unlike the US diplomats, who show an important dose of understanding and respect for the Serbian position, the editor of the Kosovo Online portal notes that most European mediators insist on solutions and actions that ignore the interests and rights of the Serbian state, and fully push the Albanian side.
"I would invite certain British and German parliamentarians to go through central Kosovo, from Drenica to Djakovica, for example, to see for themselves the multi-ethnicity of Kosovo that they talk about when they attack Serbia. To see the "harmony of the rule of law" throughout Kosovo, where there are 100 percent Albanian areas because the Serbs have been expelled and do not have the possibility to return to their homes. The same ones are now rebelling against the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities, and they are bothered by the Serbs getting at least basic rights," Garic pointed out in an interview for Radio Television of Serbia.
