UNS: Kosovo Police's treatment of Serbian journalists at Gazimestan is unacceptable
The Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS), together with its branch in Kosovo, has protested what it described as the obstruction and interference by Kosovo Police officers with the work of journalists from Serbian media outlets while they were covering the Vidovdan memorial service at Gazimestan.
According to UNS, during the detention of several individuals at Gazimestan, media crews were positioned in the area designated for press coverage when a member of the Kosovo Police's special unit approached one of the journalists, verbally confronted him, and demanded that he identify himself.
"Although the journalist informed the officer that he was carrying out his professional duties and reporting from the event, the officer continued shouting at him, moved into his personal space, and pointed his finger at him in a threatening manner," the statement said.
UNS further stated that, according to the information it had received, members of the Kosovo Police also pushed several media crews away from the area from which they had been reporting.
The association stressed that such treatment of media professionals is unacceptable, recalling that filming in public spaces is lawful and should not be obstructed or prevented in any way.
