USA: Concerned and disappointed by the ongoing uncoordinated actions of the Kosovo Government, it will affect cooperation
The US Government, in response to today's action by the Kosovo Police in northern Kosovo, reiterated its concern and disappointment over the ongoing uncoordinated actions taken by the Government of Kosovo, which continue to have a direct and negative impact on members of the Serbian community and other minority communities in Kosovo.
"Under the orders of the political authorities of the Government of Kosovo, the Kosovo Police today conducted operations against institutions supported by Serbia in North Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavic. Issues related to Serbia-supported structures in Kosovo should be resolved through the EU-led Dialogue. This action was not coordinated with any element of the international community," states the announcement published by the U.S. Embassy in Pristina.
They remind that the United States and its international partners have consistently requested that the Government of Kosovo prioritize coordination with the international community and refrain from taking unilateral actions on issues that are on the agenda of the EU-mediated Dialogue.
"The failure of the Government of Kosovo to respond to these requests reflects the worsening of our partnership. As we have noted before, uncoordinated actions by the Government of Kosovo place the citizens of Kosovo and KFOR soldiers at greater risk, unnecessarily escalate regional tensions, and undermine Kosovo's reputation as a reliable international partner," warns the United States.
"While the Government of the United States is proud to have supported the establishment and professionalization of the Kosovo Police over many years as part of our commitment to enhancing security and stability, the government's continued instrumentalization of the Kosovo Police to carry out uncoordinated actions is inconsistent with Kosovo's promises to 'continue consultations and coordination with the international community'," the statement adds.
The actions of the Government, the United States warns, will also affect the quality and nature of cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and its subordinate elements.
