Velebit on raid in Serbian institutions: Kurti’s extremist policy also against American Interests

Vuk Velebit, the Executive Director of the Pupin Initiative, assessed today’s closure of Serbian institutions south of the Ibar River as a continuation of the escalation by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who, in his opinion, is attempting to exploit the vacuum ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration in the USA.
“This is a continuation of the escalation by Albin Kurti and his extremist policy, which is also aimed against American interests in our region because there is an interest in America for peace and stability, and Kurti’s main factor goes against that. I think this is also a continuation of what he had announced at the beginning of his campaign, namely the shutdown of parallel Serbian institutions, further taking over the North, and I think that, unfortunately, we can expect more such unilateral, uncoordinated actions with the international community. Kurti is trying to exploit this power vacuum that exists in America until the inauguration of the new American president,” he said.
Velebit believes that Kurti will act this way because he knows that when the new American administration takes office, it will not look favorably upon it and will not sit “idly by.”
“I am sure that those well-acquainted with the situation in Trump’s close circle, when it comes to our region, will have an influence on what happens,” Velebit believes.
In this regard, he notes that the reactions of the Quint countries, unfortunately, have not always been effective, meaning that there has not been a de-escalation.
“As long as there is no shift from a policy of reaction to a policy of sanctions against Albin Kurti’s actions, I do not believe there will be any major differences or changes in his behavior,” Velebit stated.
