A long-time friend of the murdered Oliver Ivanovic, lawyer Nebojsa Vlajic said today, on the fifth anniversary of the murder of the Civic Initiative "Freedom, Democracy, Justice" leader, that he did not know anyone who believed that the truth would be reached in the court proceedings conducted before the Kosovo judicial authorities, Radio Mitrovica Sever reports.

"The Kosovo judiciary has proven to be incompetent, and whoever hopes for justice in such a procedure is, to say the least, very uninformed. What we have so far, five years after the murder, is that we still don't know anything. Dozens of witnesses were heard, and none of them said a single concrete thing. The people against whom the proceedings are being conducted were each in custody for three years, the proceedings have been conducted for four years, and there is no result," Vlajic said.

Today, he lit a candle and paid his respects at the location of Ivanovic's murder, and on that occasion added that he believed that, after the current course of proceedings conducted before the Pristina judicial authorities, we should not expect anything spectacular to happen. Vlajic said the indictment, even after several corrections at the court's request, was still invalid.

"The indictment was drawn up by incompetent people who do not know much about the event but only speculate. The fact that the court returned the indictment three times for correction shows that it was not valid, and I am convinced that it is not valid even today. How would the end of the trial be reached is another matter, but the indictment does not offer any hope that the proceedings will be convincing," Vlajic concluded.
