Vucevic: I hope the negotiations in Brussels will lead to the calming of tensions in Kosovo and Metohija

Minister of Defense Milos Vucevic stated today, regarding the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina being held in Brussels at a high level, that he hoped the negotiations would lead to a calming of the situation on the ground, as reported by RTV.

He emphasized that he still could not comprehend that the Quint countries were pressuring Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and that he refused to listen to them.

"The countries engaged in the negotiation process see Kosovo as an independent state, which makes Serbia's position quite difficult. We must not withdraw from this dialogue. The current security situation is challenging. It seems it calmed down if nothing is happening for a few days, but that's not accurate," Vucevic said for TV Prva.

As he pointed out, the essence is that Kurti wants to ethnically cleanse the territory.

"The ban on importing food and medicines is aimed at making it impossible for the people to survive. The international community turns a blind eye to him," Vucevic emphasized.

He noted that Kosovo tended to create a classic army, which would be the successor to the KLA, and that they had acquired serious weapon systems.

"I hope KFOR will not allow Albin Kurti's adventurism," Vucevic said.

He emphasized that Serbia's position was challenging, to say the least, and that the issue of procuring new military equipment was problematic.

"We want to invest in our army, but we are prevented from buying weapons from Russia because of the war. If you want to buy weapons in the West, they ask you 'What are you preparing for?'" Vucevic emphasized.

Regarding the holding of elections, Vucevic said that the SNS (Serbian Progressive Party) was ready to talk to President Aleksandar Vucic and other parties.

"We are ready to verify the legitimacy of the elections; we will not cling to seats at all costs," Vucevic said.

He also added that it was not decent to talk about separating elections.

"The technical issue is when the elections will be held. Holding elections is a matter of our domestic policy, not the international community," Vucevic emphasized.
