Vucic: Always the same countries lobby against Serbia, in favor of Pristina
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told for RTS tonight that it is always the same group of European countries that strongly lobby against Serbia, and in favor of Pristina, with the support of a large European country that stands behind it.
Given his statement that he is concerned about European policy on Kosovo, Vucic said that the meeting he had in Davos with the outgoing mediator in the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, did not reassure him in this regard.
"They will start coming up with ideas again in Europe, because they allegedly tried to be harsh with Kurti, but since they failed, now they will try to do something to him regarding the Council of Europe and other things. I guess he deserved it with his behavior," Vucic said.
He pointed out that this is being led by a part of the countries that are lobbying extremely strongly against Serbia, and in favor of Pristina.
"It's always the same group of countries - part of the Baltic, Scandinavian countries, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Croatia and a major European power behind that, which pretends to be naive and innocent, as if it doesn't know all this and doesn't understand what it's all about," explained President Vucic.
He said that Serbia should trust in the strength of American arguments.
"We will talk to the Americans so that those who made provocations on the ground are not rewarded. We are not asking for sanctions against anyone, but fair treatment towards the Serbian people, respect for the agreement. Bring back the regional police, form the Joint Security Council. When that is over, then we can talk about other things," Vucic was clear.
When it comes to Peter Sorensen, who will certainly succeed Lajcak as the EU's special envoy for dialogue, Vucic said that he is a professional and a serious man, but what is more important is how the Quint and Europe will behave.
Regarding relations between Serbia and the US, Vucic stressed that he would try to get in touch with the highest American officials as soon as possible.
"If President Trump contributed to calming the situation in Ukraine, that would mean everything. And to everyone in Serbia, but I would say in all of Europe and a good part of the world," the president said.
Speaking about the sanctions against NIS, he assessed that it would not be Donald Trump who would deal with it, but one of his associates.
"Not all sanctions can be lifted immediately and in that way, but they can certainly change a lot. He is having talks today with Republican representatives in the Senate and the House of Representatives. So, they have a majority in both houses, he can change that. It is not as simple as it seems, but he can change it. So we will get in touch with them and we will talk," the Serbian president added.
He added that oil prices have stabilized and have started to "fall" on the world market in the last two days, so he hopes that fuel prices will also be lower in Serbia by the end of the week.
He said that the most important thing for citizens is to know that there will be enough oil, diesel, gasoline and all derivatives.
