Vucic: I don't know if the situation will calm down; we will defend our national interests
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that he spoke with the US and the EU representatives about the situation in Kosovo yesterday, that there were some ideas and that it was not known whether they would succeed and that he did not know whether the situation would calm down.
"There were some ideas. I don't know if we will succeed, the situation is complicated. We will try to preserve peace," Vucic said at a joint conference with the Hungarian president on the Serbia and Hungary border.
When asked whether Serbia would announce the names of the countries that have withdrawn recognition, after Kosovo's application for EU membership, Vucic answered that Serbia's further moves would be known tonight after the government session, which he would attend.
"You will know the answer to our demands regarding Resolution 1244 and about the countries' recognition withdrawal. What some EU countries are doing is a violation of Article 49 of the EU Treaty because the condition for membership is to be a European country. I don't know if it is viewed territorially or if one of the largest or all EU countries thinks so. I don't know what criteria are used to determine whether someone is a state. We will have to fight with that and protect our national interests," Vucic said.
