Vucic: I signed approval for the introduction of a 75-day military service
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, announced today that he had signed the approval for the introduction of a mandatory 75-day military service.
"As the Supreme Commander and President of the Republic, I signed the approval for the implementation of mandatory military service lasting 75 days. I want to believe that the government will adopt this decision," Vucic said while addressing the promotion ceremony of the new class of officers of the Serbian Armed Forces.
As he added, he hopes everyone understands the importance of having a strong military, as well as the need for purchasing weaponry.
"Our goal is not to attack anyone, nor will we do so, but we want to deter those who relentlessly threaten us every day. And you are the firmest bulwark and the rock that guarantees that deterrence," Vucic told the officers.
He also told them that the period ahead will not be easy, that the young officers today become those who will always be at the front lines defending the homeland, and that they must always stand by their people.
"There can be no excuses, concessions, or justifications. You must always be with your people and your army," Vucic emphasized.
He observed that we all live today in a world of distorted values, as values have never been more talked about yet have never been less present.
"Only interests, with no desire for compromise. Compromise is an ugly word because everyone expects to win and destroy the other. That is why we are heading toward disaster. In such conditions, our army must grow stronger and more powerful," the President of Serbia concluded.
