Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated this evening in New York that peace is more important than anything today, but that large countries, with great hypocrisy, brutally violate UN laws and peace, while international public law applies only to "small" countries.

"International public law applies to the small and weak, and only in cases where they are not attacked by the big ones. When it comes to large countries, it is incredible how, with so many lies and hypocrisy, they brutally violate UN laws and peace," Vucic said during his address at the Summit on the Future, which precedes the debate of the UN General Assembly.

He emphasized that peace is more important than anything today, but no one sees it as a great value.

“But only the large countries justify everything with stories of a just peace, which means that they win, and the others not only lose but are completely destroyed. Everyone will invoke international law when it benefits them, but they forget everything they have done. And other big countries will remind them of this, while conveniently forgetting their own wrongdoings, but they will point out the violations of international law by the first group,” noted the President of Serbia.

He stated that Serbia supports the UN Secretary-General's Plan and the Pact for the Future, although it wants to see more compromises and more understanding from the large countries toward the smaller ones.

"But how can we talk about sustainable development and financing, or the position of youth, when we have enormous conflicts and tensions in the world," he observed.

He stressed that Serbia believes it is important to find a balance between Western interests and the rule of law, and the demands of other states, especially when it comes to family and traditional values.

"Human rights are one thing, but their misuse and violation can lead to the destruction of traditional societies, and many countries cannot accept this, particularly when it comes to family values, which are also nurtured in Serbia," he added.

He stated that Serbia is on its path to the EU and respects international law norms.

"Serbia is simultaneously a modern country with a high growth rate, but it is not ready to sacrifice its traditional values and will resist all external attempts and so-called 'woke' movements that impose a societal model we are supposed to reach in the future," Vucic concluded.
