Vucic speaks with Putin by phone: An important conversation for Serbia’s future

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin about bilateral relations, the situation in the region, the conflict in Ukraine, energy cooperation and other issues of importance to Serbia and Russia.

“During the lengthy, hour-long conversation, we covered a range of topics—bilateral relations, the situation in the region, the conflict in Ukraine, as well as all other issues of importance to Serbia and Russia,” Vucic said.

Vucic particularly highlighted energy cooperation, specifically the gas arrangement, which expires on September 30.

“I believe that, following today’s conversation, it will be extended and that we will ensure a stable gas supply. The citizens of Serbia should know that we will continue to have a favorable, low gas price of EUR 318 per 1,000 cubic meters, instead of paying the market price, which currently stands at EUR 868. We also discussed the issue of the Petroleum Industry of Serbia, in the hope of finding a solution that is good for both sides,” Vucic said.

He also thanked Putin for providing assistance in extinguishing the wildfires in Serbia, thereby helping to prevent damage on a larger scale.

Vucic informed his Russian counterpart that he would submit his resignation tomorrow.

“I informed the President of the Russian Federation that I will submit my resignation tomorrow and expressed my gratitude for our cooperation over the past fourteen years, in the hope that future presidents of Serbia will also know how to conduct our country’s foreign policy responsibly, maintaining a certain balance in relations with all actors on the international stage,” Vucic said.

It was an important conversation for Serbia’s future, Vucic concluded.
