Vucic speaks with von der Leyen: Stability and responsible policies key to the future of the Western Balkans and Europe
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, emphasized in a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, that stability, cooperation, and responsible policies are of crucial importance for the future of the Western Balkans and Europe.
“A good and open discussion with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on key issues concerning relations between Serbia and the European Union, as well as on our country’s further progress on its European path,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.
He conveyed that during the conversation he reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to the accelerated implementation of substantive reforms in the areas of the rule of law, improvement of the judicial system, strengthening the independence of institutions, as well as the implementation of media legislation and a package of reform laws, in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
Vucic stressed that Serbia will continue to work responsibly and with dedication toward alignment with European standards.
“While expressing gratitude to President von der Leyen for her personal engagement, I also conveyed my expectation that cooperation with the European Commission will continue to provide clear support to reform efforts and to the acceleration of our country’s EU accession process,” the Serbian President stated.
He added that they also exchanged views on current regional and global challenges.
“I reiterated that stability, cooperation, and responsible policies are of decisive importance for the future of the Western Balkans and Europe,” Vucic concluded.
