Vucic: We will open 400 new jobs in healthcare in Kosovo and Metohija

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic announced this evening that 400 new jobs will be created within the healthcare system in Kosovo in the next ten days. He also emphasized that Serbia must not fall for Albin Kurti’s provocations, as Kurti wants to lure Serbia into a trap before a potential global conflict breaks out.

Speaking on TV Pink, Vucic stressed the importance of maintaining peace, though he acknowledged that this is difficult given Kurti’s actions on the ground.

In this context, he mentioned the Law on Foreigners, which, he said, puts Serbs in Kosovo in a dreadful position.

“I would like to tell the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija that we will stand by them and will always take care of them,” Vucic underlined.

He announced that 400 new jobs will be opened in the healthcare system in Kosovo in the next ten days.

Vucic also said that he asked the Center for Social Stability for the next protest march against blockades, scheduled for October 11, to be dedicated to supporting the Serbian people in Kosovo.

“I proposed that the next march be dedicated to our people in Kosovo and Metohija and to their support, not only against the blockades, because those look sad and miserable. We should try to invite those people from the blockades and organize gatherings together to show support for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” Vucic emphasized.

Responding to comments that he should regularly demand the return of the Serbian army to Kosovo, Vucic noted that he has already done so—at least six times—with his personal signature.

“We have agreed to go before the UN Security Council. I understand the tactical political moves. It’s clear that those who protect their own ‘child’ will not allow anything to be achieved,” Vucic said, adding that he does not expect the upcoming Security Council session to change much, but that it will at least make the situation heard.

“Whatever we say, their policy will remain the same for some time. We must not fall into Kurti’s provocations. He wants us to walk into that trap before the global conflict begins,” Vucic warned.

He recalled that after his meeting with the President of Russia on November 25, 2021—before the outbreak of the war—he knew what was coming, even though Ukraine had not been discussed.

“Everyone is preparing for war. When everyone prepares, it’s very hard to avoid it. Everyone wants clear divisions, and that’s why the pressure on Serbia is so great. I would ask citizens to understand our position—that we must remain united and preserve it. How can we tomorrow say that we’ve imposed sanctions on Russia, and if we don’t progress on the European path, where will investments come from? How will we travel to European cities? Do you think they won’t take measures against us? We must preserve our policy. If we fail to do that together, they will create deep divisions in our society on any issue, and we won’t have the strength to resist anything,” Vucic explained.

He reminded that Serbia had already experienced the breakup of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro and the secession of Kosovo, warning that Serbia could return to such humiliation if it does not remain strong and united.

“We can’t rely only on emotions; we must have a rational and responsible approach,” the president emphasized.

He also noted that the price of gold has risen significantly, which, he said, usually happens when tragedy, disaster, or war approaches—when there is total uncertainty and global destabilization.

“I have recently visited China, Japan, the United States, Copenhagen, where many leaders were present. I haven’t heard a single topic other than weapons and war,” Vucic repeated.

The president stressed that Serbia must continue its European path.

“Don’t remind me of everything that has been done to us. I know that best—from the Brussels Agreement to them sending back our laws ten times despite being drafted per ODIHR’s recommendations. But I know how a state can exist and progress. Serbia must accelerate its European path. Ursula von der Leyen is coming to Belgrade soon. We must speed up our work, think rationally—not emotionally—about what, how, and where to go, while preserving our friendships. It will be extremely hard, terribly complicated. There will be many bad news,” Vucic said.

I regret the withdrawal of Brnovich’s nomination for U.S. ambassador to Serbia

Asked about the withdrawal of Mark Brnovich’s nomination as U.S. ambassador to Serbia, President Vucic said he deeply regretted the decision and agreed with the reasons Brnovich himself had stated.

“They couldn’t bear to see Serbian influence growing so strong. That so-called Third League of Prizren, established in New York in 1946, caused us the greatest harm. That lobby is extremely powerful — in Brooklyn, in Manhattan, throughout New York, and in Washington. They did everything they could to prevent this from happening,” Vucic explained.

He emphasized that Brnovich’s appointment would have meant a great deal for bringing Serbia and the United States closer together.

Vucic added that Serbia would nonetheless continue to work on strengthening its ties with the United States.

When asked whether a new ambassadorial decision was on the horizon, he replied that no such decision existed at the moment, nor was one currently being considered.

Presidential and Parliamentary elections likely in December 2026

Vucic announced that presidential and parliamentary elections in Serbia will likely be held together in December 2026, or possibly even earlier.

He underlined that the Constitution will not be amended—meaning he will not seek another presidential term.

“I officially have a year and a half left in my mandate. It will probably end earlier, and we will likely hold joint presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2026, or perhaps a bit earlier. I am near the end of my mandate. I don’t want to change the Constitution. I will not run for president again,” Vucic clarified.

Direct Belgrade–Toronto Flight to Start in March

The President also announced that a direct flight between Belgrade and Toronto will be launched in March.

“Imagine what news that is for our diaspora, for our people abroad. Even many bigger countries don’t have that. A direct flight to Toronto—from little Serbia,” Vucic said, adding that some final details still need to be resolved with the Canadian authorities.

He reminded that there are already direct flights from Belgrade to Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, New York, and Chicago.
