Vukicevic: We are finding ways as best we can; Kurti's regulations make life difficult for everyone
Biljana Vukicevic, the director of "Branko Radicevic" school in North Mitrovica, says that for the past three months since the Central Bank of Kosovo's regulation banning the use of the dinar came into effect, the workers of this collective, as well as the entire Serbian population in Kosovo, are finding ways as best they can to organize their daily lives.
"Functioning is more difficult; unfortunately, all these Kurti's regulations worsen the already disrupted order and peace in the city. Going to the first Postal Savings Bank, to Rudnica, maybe younger people can afford it, but there's a lot of older and sick population, bedridden population. All these regulations jeopardize the entire population in Kosovo and Metohija. And it is not just about financial means. There are almost no Serbian products in stores, shelves are half-empty, there are no medicines in the state pharmacy...," Vukicevic says for Kosovo Online.
Regarding the school's work, she notes that acquiring teaching aids, textbooks, and other necessary items for classroom work is very difficult.
"And parents have a problem with that. We as teachers try to make it easier for them as much as possible, but everything is getting harder and harder. Organizing field trips, recreational activities, payments, etc. Payment transactions are endangered, and it's not just about going to Rudnica and getting money. As someone who is at the helm of this school, I try to help those who have it even harder with my employees," Vukicevic says.
As she emphasizes, what particularly worries her is the safety of the youth, because various arrests happen daily.
"A few days ago, a boy was beaten for no reason, and our girls are not safe. As well as parents, teachers, and principals, the entire population of this city is in fear and panic, which is quite normal. Everything in this city and in Kosovo and Metohija is in a difficult security situation, which I hope, with the help of our country, we will somehow overcome and stay where we are. The Serbian suffering people manage to overcome even this situation, until when, I don't know. Our people are very patient. They will endure everything to stay on their land, but it's very difficult. As long as our government and our country are behind us, we are with them," Vukicevic says.
