Zecevic: It was time for someone to warn Pristina after so many years; the US wants to implement the reached agreements

It was time for someone to warn Pristina after so many years for continuously violating the Brussels Agreement, Slobodan Zecevic from the Institute for European Studies says for Kosovo Online.

Zecevic commented on the writing of the media that had announced that "the United States of America and three EU members have asked several member countries of the Council of Europe that the issue of Kosovo's membership in this organization is not put on the agenda of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe until Pristina shows constructiveness regarding the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities".

"I look at the pressure of the US very positively; it was high time after so many years that someone warned Pristina for continuously violating the Brussels Agreement that was agreed between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the temporary institutions in Kosovo. The US wants to respect what was agreed and to put into practice the reached agreement," our interlocutor says.

When asked if he expected additional pressure from the US if Pristina continued to refuse the assumed obligation to establish the CSM, Zecevic states the following.

"Honestly, I don't know what the intentions of the US are, but in the very document of the Franco-German proposal there is a certain type of sanctions that would be applied against Pristina if it does not conclude an agreement with Serbia, and practically it would be in order, from taking away the area code for Kosovo to others things that were agreed upon in the Brussels Agreement. The positive thing is that the Americans are showing for the first time that they care about the implementation of agreements from the past and that they are not empty words and that concrete actions will be taken," Zecevic says.
