Analyst from Skopje, Petar Arsovski, believes that the results of the elections in Albania so far show that the citizens of that country have placed their trust in Edi Rama, who spent nearly the entire campaign speaking about European integration. He says that this could now lead to a certain level of frustration in Kosovo and North Macedonia, especially among Albanians, as their compatriots in Albania move forward on the path to the EU, while they remain stuck.
Arsovski emphasized that the European Union’s desire for enlargement will ensure Albania’s progress on the European path.
“The European Union’s desire for enlargement will ensure that Albania moves forward. In this sense, what can be expected is that Albania’s progress may create a certain frustration for Kosovo and North Macedonia, particularly among Albanians, because their compatriots in Albania will be moving toward the EU, while those countries, each for their own reasons, are stuck on that path. The separation of Albania and the resulting frustration among other Albanians in the region can be expected as a kind of regional echo of the outcome of these elections,” Arsovski told Kosovo Online.
