Decani Monastery: The Kosovo authorities seem determined to follow a course that threatens to fuel inter-ethnic conflict

The situation in North Mitrovica was on the verge of a significant escalation following this morning's armed police action by the Kosovo authorities. Reports of arrests, the use of tear gas, and the growing number of people gathering in the streets in protest signaled a dramatic increase in tensions, the Decani Monastery stated.

"We pray that any loss of human life is prevented. Such reckless behavior is akin to playing matches next to a firebox. Despite numerous international appeals for de-escalation, the Kosovo authorities seem determined to pursue a course that threatens to fuel inter-ethnic conflict with unpredictable outcomes for all parties involved," it was stated on the Twitter profile of the Decani Monastery

They add that an immediate international response is imperative to prevent a crisis.

"It is crucial that moderate voices are heard, and not just the inflammatory reports of warmongering media. The solution to the Kosovo issues lies in the continuation of the dialogue and unwavering respect for the previously established agreements. This especially includes the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities (CSM), which is also supported by the US and the EU. This was consistently emphasized during the peaceful protests of the Kosovo Serbs in recent days," Decani Monastery stated.
