Delevic: We will insist that Kurtaj be tried for attempted murder
Lawyer Milos Delevic, who represents two young men from Gotovusa who were wounded by Azem Kurtaj, a member of the KSF, on Christmas Day, pointed out that they had been against replacing Kurtaj with house arrest, but that the court had not considered their reasons that it had been a serious crime and that the public had been disturbed.
Delevic told Kosovo Online that the first hearing against the defendant Azem Kurtaj had been held today and pointed out that Kurtaj had not pleaded guilty to the two crimes charged against him - causing general danger and using weapons.
"His defense attorney suggested that his court detention be changed to house arrest and the court approved it. We objected, but the court did not accept our reasons that it was a serious crime and that the public was upset," Delevic says.
According to his words, the phase of examination of the indictment and presentation of evidence was coming.
"We will insist until the end of the proceedings that the prosecutor requalifies the crime as a serious crime of attempted murder. The decision is up to the court, the court is not bound by the qualification in the indictment, and we expect to convict him of serious attempted murder," Delevic said.
On Christmas Day, a Serbian boy and a young man were wounded in Gotovusa when they were returning home from cutting the Serbian Christmas trees, and Azem Kurtaj shot at them from a vehicle.
On that occasion, one was wounded in the hand, while the other received a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Kurtaj fled the scene and was later arrested.
