Leposavic: Students returned to school, with KFOR and special police present on the streets
In all communities in Kosovo where education follows the curriculum of the Ministry of Education of Serbia, the new school year began today.
A Kosovo Online reporter documented the arrival of students on the first day of the new school year at the "Leposavic" Elementary School and the "Nikola Tesla" Technical High School in Leposavic.
At the start of the new school year in Leposavic, students, upon entering and leaving school, will have to pass by special units of the Kosovo Police as well as KFOR personnel who have been stationed in front of the municipal building for over three months, guarding Albanian Mayor Luzlim Hetemi, who was elected in local elections in which Serbs did not participate and has not left the building since taking office.
In the "Leposavic" Elementary School, children with special needs attend classes in a specialized department, which is part of the "Kosovski Bozur" School in North Mitrovica.
Parents who brought their children to school this morning drove past KFOR soldiers, with whom they reached an agreement to be allowed to drop off their children at school.
After parents left the schoolyard, KFOR soldiers removed metal barriers from the main road in the center of Leposavic, allowing traffic to flow unhindered starting today.
The Ministry of Education of Serbia has provided guidelines to all schools, so the school year in Serbian communities in Kosovo began with a so-called thematic week and workshops.
