Miljan's wife about the drama in Jarinje: I ask about my husband, and the policeman has a rifle in his hands
The wife of a former member of the Kosovo Police, who was mistakenly arrested in Jarinje yesterday and released today, Suzana Jovanovic, says that after a sleepless night, everyone in the family is still under stress, including their two minor children, who were at the crossing last night witnessed the arrest of their father.
"Everything was chaotic. They kept us for an hour and a half, maybe longer, at the crossing, and I didn't even know where he was at that moment. They told me to wait in the car with the children and not to get out. We were sitting in the car, and only after about an hour and a half, a policeman came, who opened the door and said that my husband wanted to talk to me," Suzana tells Kosovo Online.
As she says, she asked the policeman why Miljan hadn’t come by himself to tell her what was going on, when in fact it was already clear to her that he was forbidden to come to the car.
At that moment, she saw a ROSU unit jeep approaching at high speed.
"That's when I realized what it was about, got out of the car, and saw Miljan with handcuffs on his hands, which he tried to lift to show me that he was arrested. I was in shock... The policeman standing next to him slapped him, not to say or show anything," she recalls.
Two children, aged five and seven, witnessed these scenes.
"The children were shocked, they started crying, calling out for their dad... It was hard for him too. I wanted to record with my phone in that shock, thinking that no one would believe me that a man who absolutely did not do anything was arrested in such a way, in front of his minor children. But when they saw that I took my phone out of my pocket, they put him in a jeep," Suzana says.
Three policemen got into the jeep with Miljan, one stayed by.
"I came with the children, so as not to leave them on the side of the road. I approached the ROSU police officer who was standing next to the jeep to ask him what was going on, why Miljan was arrested, and where he was being taken... At that moment, when I was approaching with the children, the policeman headed towards us with his hand on the rifle... He didn't point it at us, but it was an unpleasant situation. I approached the policeman with the children to ask him something, and he was holding the rifle on standby..." Suzana says.
Miljan was then taken away, and she remained with the children on the busy road, at the moment when, as she adds, a strong wind began to blow and it began to snow.
"The children were still screaming, asking where dad was... I also approached the police officers who remained at the crossing to ask them where he was and why they arrested him, but they just shrugged their shoulders and repeated that this was the procedure. I understand the job and the procedure, but I asked them if it could have been done more nicely and humanely, and not in front of the children... They just shrugged their shoulders and repeated that it was a procedure," Miljan's wife said, who was still visibly shaken.
After a sleepless night, the children are now at their grandparents, to recover from the shock.
"The phones are ringing; we are all under stress..." Suzana Jovanovic added.
