The five-member Vanic family from Donja Brnjica, near Pristina, has been facing serious problems in recent days. Due to an unresolved property dispute from many years ago, an Albanian man—who, according to them, illegally purchased their land—is trying to evict them from their home.

Radomir Vanic lives with his wife and three children in the house built decades ago by his grandfather and father. He claims that his father is the legal owner of the property, but that distant relatives sold it illegally.

Radomir has filed a legal complaint with Kosovo's judicial institutions against the sale, and the court has yet to make a ruling. Despite this, the Albanian buyer has been trying to forcefully remove the Vanic family from their home in recent days.

Today, he removed all the windows and doors from the house, leaving the Vanic family unsure of where they will stay in the coming days. Radomir told Kosovo Online that the buyer, accompanied by his brother and father, began renovating the house under the pretext that the judge handling the case had passed away and that he did not want to wait for a court decision.

“He came and said he couldn’t wait for the court. He said, ‘The judge is dead, this is mine.’ They did everything by force. They had been coming here several times, sitting around all day claiming the property was theirs, but they didn’t destroy anything. Today, they came, said they wouldn’t wait for a court ruling, and started renovating. I don’t know where we’ll go now. I’m mostly worried about my children. I can sleep outside, I’m used to it, but it’s hardest for the kids,” said Radomir, visibly distressed.

He called the Kosovo police, who managed to stop the destruction. According to Radomir, the authorities have prohibited the Albanian buyer from returning to the property for the next month or until the court reaches a decision.
