Residents of Leposavic: We miss dairy products the most; it is especially hard for parents with young children
The residents of Leposavic miss milk and meat products that used to come from Serbia the most, and they complain about imported products whose ingredients are mostly in a language unfamiliar to them, so they cannot know what each product contains.
Stanka Scepanovic says it has been difficult since Serbian products, especially dairy products, have been unavailable, and she adds that it is particularly hard for parents with young children.
"Honestly, we miss a lot of things. It is hard to manage without Serbian goods, there is no yogurt, Smoki, or chocolate for children. The hardest is dairy products; it's quite difficult. Sometimes we go to Raska, but it is exhausting, especially for us older people. You have to wait for the bus, then do the shopping, and then wait for transportation again, and we lose the whole day. Imagine how it is for young parents with small children," Scepanovic told Kosovo Online.
Jovica Djokovic adds that on the store shelves in Leposavic, there are also no Serbian cured meat products, which they are used to.
"Serbian goods have been unavailable for a long time. We miss cured meat products, dairy products, and flour, but mostly yogurt, milk, and flour. Our products are our products, Serbian," Djokovic said.
Danica Jeftic believes that the fruit is much worse and has a shorter shelf life compared to what used to come from Serbia. She also adds that everything is more expensive, and the ingredients are in a language she doesn’t understand.
"I miss milk, cheese, dairy products in general, meat, and everything else I’m used to. When I go to the store, I can’t read the ingredients in another language, so I don’t know what to buy. The products we miss the most overall are fresh fruit and vegetables. It arrives, but it is only good for today or tomorrow. It’s not like it was from Serbia, where there was everything every day. I’m telling you, meat, a butcher shop where you can buy the type of meat you want, our budget isn’t always the same; not everyone can pay 1,500 dinars when there are options for 400, 500 dinars," Jeftic said.
