Residents of Pristina say that, 18 years after declaring independence, Kosovo has indeed become independent, but that it still lacks recognition from Serbia.

For Ajvaz Rama, Kosovo lacks nothing except Serbia’s recognition.

“It should have been resolved earlier, this has gone on too long. Kosovo lacks nothing except Serbia’s recognition. Serbia should recognize it and move forward. Citizens have never lived better, but no one is satisfied, everyone feels something is missing,” Rama told Kosovo Online.

Mirsad Krasniqi says that 18 years is not a short period and that independence “is growing year by year.”

“Kosovo lacks a bit more development and more jobs,” Krasniqi points out, adding that Kosovo has also stagnated in terms of membership in international organizations.

“I think it will gradually become a member,” he said optimistically.

Another resident believes that life in Kosovo is like anywhere else in the world, but that it is normal for citizens to seek better conditions.

“Every country always lacks something, because life and time move forward. A person is never satisfied with what they have, they always seek more, that is why people work, to create, to have a better life. That does not apply only to Kosovo, but to all nations. They seek better. Life here is normal, like everywhere, but we all seek better,” he said.

There are also those who believe Kosovo has long been independent.

“It has been independent for a long time, let alone now. So it is among the most independent countries in Europe,” one Pristina resident claimed.
