Todic congratulated the citizens on Leposavic Municipality Day: The most important thing is for us to be united in these difficult times
This year, the Leposavic Municipality Day was marked more modestly due to the current security situation.
Because of the violently usurped municipality building for almost five months, a reception for the families of fallen fighters from the 1999 war was held at the amphitheater of the High Technical School of Vocational Studies in Urosevac - Leposavic.
Families, the leaders of the Leposavic Municipality with their associates, Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Dusica Nikolic, and Assistant Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Milena Parlic laid wreaths and lit candles at the memorial for fallen fighters throughout the centuries. Floral wreaths were placed at the memorials in Lesak and Socanica.
The Leposavic Municipality Day was marked more modestly this year in accordance with the situation the Serbs find themselves in, Zoran Todic, the President of the Provisional Municipal Institution of Leposavic, said.
"This year, we are celebrating the Leposavic Municipality Day in line with the situation that has befallen all of us here. Daily pressures from the Kosovo authorities and institutions continue to mount. This year, we are commemorating it in a more modest way than was customary in previous years. Nevertheless, despite all these pressures and challenges we face, as well as the inability of employees who have spent their entire working lives in the municipality building to access their workplaces – it's been almost five months since they were denied access – we are celebrating the Leposavic Municipality Day differently. We held a reception for the parents of the fallen fighters from 1999 and laid wreaths and flowers at the memorials for the Serbs who have suffered throughout the centuries while defending their homeland in the struggle for freedom," Todic said.
Todic congratulated all the citizens on the Leposavic Municipality Day and emphasized the importance of unity during these difficult times.
"Unfortunately, the Serbs, even twenty-four years after the 1999 conflict, continue to suffer from the daily pressure imposed by the institutions in Pristina. However, throughout history, the Serbs have endured and survived many hardships. Therefore, despite all these challenges, because of our ancestors, today we must remember all those glorious heroes who sacrificed their lives for the defense of their homeland and the fight for freedom. So today, despite the pressures we face and the difficulties that affect us all, we must look positively, be united, wise, and more united than ever, perhaps in recent Serbian history, as we have no right to give up, as it is clear that someone desires this. We are facing a period full of challenges and difficulties, but we must be courageous and wise, and have faith in ourselves and justice. Therefore, despite all these problems, today we celebrated the Leposavic Municipality Day," Todic said.
Dusica Nikolic, the Deputy Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, congratulated the citizens on Municipality Day and expressed her hope that in the coming years, they would gather under better conditions.
"First of all, I would like to, on my own behalf, on behalf of Director Petar Petkovic, and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, congratulate all the citizens and the leadership of the Municipality of Leposavic on the Municipality Day. These are difficult days, difficult times for our people in the Municipality of Leposavic, as well as throughout Kosovo and Metohija. My message is simple and clear: the state of Serbia is here in the territory of the Municipality of Leposavic and has been here during difficult times. With faith in God, we will overcome these difficult times, and we will gather next year on the Municipality Day under better conditions and in a more peaceful environment," Nikolic said.
