Zobenica: I'm afraid there is no interest in Kosovo to find Oliver's killers

Even six years after the assassination of the leader of the Civic Initiative "Freedom, Democracy, Justice," Oliver Ivanovic, when it comes to the investigation and finding the perpetrators, we are at the same starting point as on January 16, 2018, said Aleksandar Zobenica, one of the organizers of the protests in support of Ivanovic in 2015 while he was in Pristina's detention.

"Unfortunately, six years after the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, we are at the same starting point as on that morning when he was killed. The investigation has not moved anywhere, and these vague pieces of information that have come to the public mean nothing," Zobenica said for Kosovo Online.

Zobenica adds that he is not even sure if anyone else is interested in finding Oliver Ivanovic's killers, and he is afraid that such interest may not even exist.

"As his friend, I truly believe that we will find out one day, but when that will be, I am not really sure. I expect the state of Serbia to do something, considering that this man spent his entire life serving this country in various ways," he notes.

Reminding that the investigation is conducted by Kosovo institutions, Zobenica emphasizes that he is sure that if they have a say, the killers will never be found.

"The last time I was in Kosovo was in December 2017, with Oliver, and I haven't been there since. I know the situation from the media and friends I talk to. I believe that no one, concerning Kosovo institutions, is interested in finding out because wherever the order came from, the executor was certainly from Kosovo and Metohija. So I am sure that if they have a say, the killer will not be found, even though they probably already know who it is, they just don't want to reveal it," he says.

Commenting on accusations against the leadership of the state of Serbia being involved in the assassination, Zobenica says that there were various manipulations, various stories, and that there were even some political protests in Serbia after Ivanovic's murder.

"I really couldn't comment on that because exploiting anyone's death in any political context is nonsense to me. Regarding the further political engagement of people around Oliver, I even saw that those who were around him are still active in some other political organizations. I have nothing against it, but the point is to find his killers for the sake of his immediate family, so he can rest, because his whole life was in the service of the state," Zobenica concludes.
