Spahiu: Kosovo society is polarized, technocratic government difficult to implement
Professor of political science Nexhmedin Spahiu told Kosovo Online that the idea of a technocratic government proposed for a fixed term by the designated nominee Glauk Konjufca would be difficult to implement because Kosovo society is polarized and quite contradictory.
Spahiu says it would be difficult to find people acceptable to all parties in order for such a government to secure the necessary votes in parliament.
“The opposition might accept Konjufca as one of the most acceptable figures from Self-Determination, but if he were to propose ministers from, for example, civil society or intellectuals, it would be very difficult for such a government to obtain the required votes in parliament, because everyone is in some way ‘colored’,” Spahiu noted.
If the opposition parties, he says, fear elections that could be held on December 28 due to the diaspora vote, which is largely in favor of Albin Kurti, he sees the only possible way to resolve the crisis as passing a minority government. This would avoid holding elections on December 28 and instead postpone them to March, which could be a more favorable timing for the opposition.
Former LDK MP and member of the Board of Directors of the Albanian American Civic League Faton Bislimi recently stated that Glauk Konjufca has “a historic opportunity to prove that the state stands above the party” by offering a non-partisan government with competent, honest, and nationally proven individuals.
