Specialist Chambers: Thaçi violating detention conditions, stricter measures possible
The Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague announced today that Hashim Thaçi, who is charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity and is also facing separate proceedings for obstruction of justice and attempted witness interference, has persistently violated the amended conditions of his detention and that stricter measures may be imposed if he continues to fail to comply.
According to the Court's statement, the Trial Panel yesterday issued an order reminding Thaçi of the amended conditions governing his detention, as well as all other rules and regulations applicable to his detention.
In addition, the Panel instructed Thaçi's defense counsel to remind him of his obligations in this regard.
“Based on the Registrar's regular reports, the Trial Panel has concluded that Hashim Thaçi has persistently violated the amended conditions of his detention, as well as other relevant detention rules and regulations. Should he continue to fail to comply, the Panel will consider imposing stricter measures to ensure compliance with its orders,” the Court's statement said.
Yesterday, the Court announced that the judgment in the case against former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, who are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, will be delivered on September 16, instead of July 20, as originally scheduled.
