The Hague: Thaci was approved to come to Kosovo under supervision
The former leader of the KLA and the president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, arrived in Kosovo today; it was confirmed for Kosovo Online by the Special Court.
Thaci came to Kosovo to visit his sick mother.
"Due to plausible humanitarian reasons, the judicial panel ordered the Secretariat to ensure a supervised visit to Kosovo for Mr. Hashim Thaci to meet with his family. The accused remains in the custody of the Specialized Chambers. EULEX and the Kosovo Police are providing support to the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo," the response from The Hague for Kosovo Online stated.
Hashim Thaci's family home is currently under the surveillance of a strong police force, as well as EULEX forces.
The trial of the former KLA leaders began on April 3 with the opening statements of the parties, and Thaci pleaded not guilty to charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity before the jury.
Thaci has been in custody since November 2020.
