Central Bank: From February 1, the euro will be the only currency in Kosovo for cash transactions

The Central Bank of Kosovo announced today that, at a meeting held on December 27, the Committee of the bank had adopted the Regulation on cash operations, according to which the only currency that could be used in Kosovo for cash transactions in cash, and the payment system was the euro. This means that from February 1, when the Regulation comes into force, the Serbian dinar will not be usable.

"Other currencies that are not the euro can be used in Kosovo only as valuables for storage in physical form or in bank accounts in non-euro currencies, for international payments in non-euro currencies, and for foreign exchange activities", the Regulation for cash payments posted on the Facebook page of the Central Bank of Kosovo says.

As added, currency exchange could only be done in Kosovo through institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Kosovo that offered such services.

The decision also states that the "import and export of banknotes and euro coins and other currencies to Kosovo is exclusively the right of the Central Bank", and that the "import and export of banknotes and euro coins and other currencies to Kosovo can be done only for and by banking and non-banking financial institutions licensed by the Central Bank of Kosovo to perform financial transactions".

According to the Regulation, which comes into force on February 1, all other provisions that are contrary to this regulation are repealed from the moment this regulation comes into force.
