Mijacic: The Unresolved Issue of Serbian Goods Imports is a Great Shame for the International Community
Dragisa Mijacic, Coordinator of the Working Group of the National Convention on the EU for Chapter 35, told Kosovo Online that it is scandalous that the international community—particularly the German administration, which was involved in addressing the ban on Serbian goods entering Kosovo—has failed to fully resolve the issue.
He emphasized that the import of Serbian goods into Kosovo remains a major unresolved issue and a great embarrassment for the international community.
"The German government and its envoys were solely focused on these matters, including resolving CEFTA-related issues, as regional cooperation is important to them. Mr. Sarrazin was highly engaged in these discussions and made encouraging statements that the issue would be resolved. However, despite some initial progress, crossings other than Merdare remain closed for Serbian goods. For Serbs in northern Kosovo, the Brnjak and Jarinje crossings are particularly important—not only for access to goods but also for revenue contributions to the North Kosovo Development Fund," Mijacic stated.
He added that the organization of elections in Kosovo has significantly hindered efforts to resolve trade policies regarding Serbian imports. Currently, Pristina's government is operating in a technical mandate, and no one is actively addressing the issue, although it should be resolved soon.
"Perhaps Mr. Sorensen could also get involved in this matter. It is truly necessary to establish a regular supply of Serbian goods in Kosovo and Metohija to ensure consistent imports. Additionally, residents in northern Kosovo, who are accustomed to Serbian products, need reliable access to them," Mijacic emphasized.
