Konrad: We expect that the volume of Serbian-origin goods that can enter Kosovo will increase

German Ambassador to Serbia, Anke Konrad, stated for Kosovo Online that Germany is closely monitoring developments related to the Kosovo government’s lifting of the ban on Serbian goods entering Kosovo and said that they expect that this process will continue and that the volume of Serbian-origin goods permitted entry into Kosovo will increase.

"We are very pleased that, within the framework of the Berlin Process, we were finally able to unblock CEFTA and many agreements that had been pending for activation. We are also happy that, after a long period, we now have an agreement that included the lifting of the import ban on Kosovo for products of Serbian origin. We are carefully following developments. Over the past two weeks, we have seen improvements in the number of trucks being cleared through customs daily, and of course, we expect this process to continue and for the volume of Serbian-origin goods that can enter Kosovo to increase, hopefully without requiring much more time," Konrad stated.

As she added, there are some organizational issues that still need to be resolved.

"Nonetheless, we hope that the situation will truly return to normal very soon," the German Ambassador said.

When asked whether Kosovo was rewarded for the partial decision to lift the ban on Serbian goods, despite not fully meeting expectations, Konrad replied that there is an agreement in place and that both sides must uphold their part of the deal.

"We are in intensive discussions with the Government of Kosovo to ensure that the transfer of goods from Serbia to Kosovo can indeed resume as it was before," Konrad emphasized.
