REC members attacked by opposition supporters who deny the election results

Two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of participating in last night's incidents outside the building of the Republic Electoral Commission in Belgrade, as announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia. The detained individuals have been placed in custody.

"The members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Belgrade, in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, have arrested D. M. (20) from Jagodina and I. K. (19) from Belgrade on the grounds of suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of violent behavior at a sports event or public gathering", the Ministry stated.

It is suspected that D. M. last night, in front of the Republic Electoral Commission building on King Milan Street, prevented members of the commission from leaving after exiting the building and then pushed Miladin Kovacevic, the Director of the Republic Institute of Statistics.

I. K. is suspected of throwing solid objects several times toward the REC building, attempting to remove the protective fence, insulting police officers, and then pushing a police officer.

D. M. and I. K. have been detained for up to 48 hours, after which, along with a criminal complaint, they will be brought before the competent prosecutor's office.

A misdemeanor report will be filed in the regular procedure against a thirty-four-year-old man for the offense of insulting, committing violence, threats, or a fight under the Law on Public Order and Peace.
