Cirkovic: It would be good for temporarily displaced Serbs to come and vote in Staro Gracko, Rabovce, and Lipljan
Zoran Cirkovic, candidate of the Serb List for municipal assembly member in Lipljan, emphasized the importance of Serb presence in municipalities where Albanians make up the majority, in order to fight for better living conditions and help resolve the problems of the Serbian community in such municipalities.
In the October 12 elections, the Serb List has three candidates for the Municipal Assembly of Lipljan – Zoran Cirkovic, Anastasija Miljkovic, and Zoran Spasic.
Cirkovic, from Staro Gracko, a village within the municipality of Lipljan, pointed out that it is important for Serb interests in the municipal assembly to be represented by a Serb.
“We hope to have a good turnout from the citizens. We have influence among the people, we help them, we try to make life easier not only in this village, but also in the town of Lipljan, since the town of Lipljan is part of these local elections, along with the village of Rabovce and Novo Naselje. I am currently a member of the Communities Committee and, honestly, we must have someone there who, together with others, will work to make life easier for all communities, but primarily we will be representatives of the Serbian community. That way, as assembly members, I hope we will succeed in helping the Serbian people,” Cirkovic told Kosovo Online.
He added that the security situation in the villages around Lipljan is currently calm, praising the work of the Kosovo Police. However, he noted, there are many other issues that need to be addressed.
Although, as he pointed out, the state of Serbia helps Serbs in all areas, certain issues must be resolved within the Lipljan municipality.
“There are many other problems, such as utilities, electricity, water bills, and so on. So far, we have had positive results, since Serbs, according to what is said at the Committee, are the best payers for all utilities. Electricity, water, garbage – by far, we are the best, and we enjoy a certain level of trust, so whenever we need something extraordinary, we call them and they respond. That cooperation is very, very important. The state of Serbia helps all of us here in every area, but these local issues must be solved within the Lipljan municipality,” he added.
Cirkovic stressed the importance of everyone turning out to vote on October 12 and supporting their candidacy. He also called on displaced persons with voting rights to fulfill this duty and in that way help the Serbs who remain living in the Lipljan municipality.
“Minorities can also obtain the position of deputy chairman and assembly members, which would be very successful for our community. But voter turnout must be good. Naturally, voters from Serbia who have Kosovo ID cards, who are temporarily displaced, it would be good for them to get involved, to come and vote in their electoral units in Staro Gracko, Rabovce, and Lipljan,” Cirkovic said.
He emphasized that their candidacy is not to the detriment of any other community, but is primarily directed at helping Serbs.
“All of our plans lead us to believe that we are perhaps close to success, and that means a lot to our community – not at the expense of any other community, not even the Albanian one – but our struggle is adequately focused on helping our people with their problems,” Cirkovic concluded.
