Spreading lies about the assassination attempt on Kurti: An attempt to manipulate the UN and put Serbia in an unfavorable position
Writing for Kosovo Online: Zeljko Sain, Politika’s correspondent from Skopje
When William Walker, a CIA agent acting as a US diplomat at the OSCE in Kosovo and Metohija, staged the case near Racak in 1999, Serbian security forces were convicted of the crime against 45 Albanians, and the United States and 18 NATO countries used this event as a "legal" pretext to start the war and bombard Yugoslavia. Bearing this in mind, it is rightly questioned whose mentoring action was spread through RTK that Serbian-Russian assassination coalitions were preparing a case to remove Albin Kurti and that in Skopje, after the UN Security Council session on Kosovo and Metohija, at Serbia's special request.
Is the goal to provoke unrest again to sanction Serbia, as the successor to Yugoslavia, accused based on Walker's report of causing a humanitarian catastrophe, thus nullifying the positions of the UN Security Council and excluding Serbia from UN decision-making, as was done in 1999 when Yugoslavia was bombed?
However, this time North Macedonia, the thirtieth member of NATO, whose Prime Minister Talat Xhaferi is a member of the Albanian party DUI, did not fall for the provocation spread by the RTK news agency from Pristina but denied any possible assassination attempt on Albin Kurti.
"Dear all, we inform you that during the visit of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to Skopje, there was no assassination attempt on him. As for the security during the visit of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, it was planned in advance, according to established security rules and security assessments," the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia announced.
So, practically from NATO's security standpoint, since North Macedonia is the 30th member of the North Atlantic Alliance, there is no information indicating that an assassination attempt was being prepared on Albin Kurti. It could rather be said that it's again an attempt to disturb the public, but also an effort to disrupt the excellent relations between two neighboring countries - Serbia and North Macedonia, which have no outstanding issues and nurture exceptional neighborly relations. Of course, if this attempt were successful, it would also reflect on the relations of the member states of the "Open Balkan" initiative, where Serbia has also achieved historically significant neighborly relations with Albania.
Serbia's neutral military policy is a thorn in the side of Europe and the USA, which are not interested in strengthening intergovernmental relations among Slavic countries. Russia has also been drawn into this context, being in conflict with NATO on the territory of Ukraine. Sergey Lavrov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, commenting on the Kosovo issue for "Politika" said, "Europeans should be ashamed that they have done nothing so far to normalize relations between Belgrade and Pristina, that is, to implement the Brussels Agreement". After such a statement, another political blow was aimed at Kurti and his mentor in the UN Security Council. Spreading lies about the preparation of an assassination attempt on Albin Kurti was yet another attempt to manipulate the UN and to put Serbia in an unfavorable position, and consequently, Russia as well.
On the other hand, we should not overlook the fact that Albin Kurti behaves as the president of all Albanians living in the region - in Albania, North Macedonia, and Serbia. As such, he was chosen by the Albanian opposition when Besa Bilal Kasami, who is also the Mayor of Tetovo in this city in North Macedonia, promoted Kurti to be the president of all Albanians, with the anthem and flag of Albania, as well as the map of "Greater Albania". However, there were no major political reactions to this, except in Tirana, at the meeting of the prime ministers and presidents of the Western Balkan countries, when the then Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovacevski, directed very harsh words at Kurti. As President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucić said, it was unpleasant to hear.
In New York, Vucić pointed out that Kurti wanted to rule in North Macedonia as well. These words are supported by Kurti's actions ahead of the upcoming elections in North Macedonia, where he supports the Albanian opposition, particularly a group that split from the DUI party, led by Ali Ahmeti. He is trying to overthrow the Government in North Macedonia with the opposition, supporting and preparing an Albanian candidate for the presidency - Arben Taravari. As the president of the Alliance for Albanians party, Taravari got into conflict with Ziadin Sela, the current President of the Assembly, which even resulted in a physical altercation within the Alliance for Albanians. The government dismissed the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Health, who supported Taravari. Yesterday, the Assembly appointed two new ministers from this party, but who support Sela.
In any case, Kurti aims to place his people in the Assembly through Albanian opposition parties in North Macedonia in the next parliamentary elections, thus controlling the Macedonian state. His ambitions will likely extend to Albania as well, fulfilling the dream of creating a "Greater Albania", outside the UN framework, through armed dialogue with the authorities in these countries and with the help of his mentors who also spread the news of the assassination plot.
After the UN Security Council session on Kosovo and Metohija, Kurti did suffer a political blow from NATO, through a member of this alliance - North Macedonia, but we should not underestimate his persistence in achieving his goals, nor the persistence of his mentors in using him to achieve their strategic objectives.
