The president of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia should be based on the basic principles of mutual recognition of the two countries and that Kosovo's membership in NATO should be a natural step towards the end of three decades of commitment to the West, he wrote for Euroaktiv.

"The normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia should be based on the basic principles of mutual recognition of the two countries, with full respect for the territorial integrity of both," Andixhiku pointed out.

"During the coming months, efforts to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia will reach a critical point. In search of a successful conclusion of the dialogue, the US and the EU must support the irreversible anchoring of Kosovo in the West and avoid the malign influence of Russia and China," Abdixhiku believes.

According to him, this can only be done through full membership of Kosovo in NATO.

"For this purpose, formal recognition of Kosovo by all members of NATO and the EU is a necessary precondition," Abduxhiku said.
