Analysts: Osmani's reaction to Macron's statement was inappropriate and not at all diplomatic

The reaction of the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani to the warnings of French President Emmanuel Macron about the possible review of visa liberalization for Kosovo was assessed as inappropriate and not at all diplomatic, Koha writes.

According to political commentators, the threat of giving up the dialogue with Serbia if the decision to cancel visas for Kosovo citizens is suspended is not the right solution, because Kosovo has no other alternative but dialogue.

Political analyst Arton Demhasaj said that, despite the warning of French President Emmanuel Macron, that the decision on visa liberalization for Kosovo should be reconsidered, if it did not behave responsibly in the dialogue, Osmani should have been more careful with her statements.

"I think it is not the right way since Kosovo is not a strong country either strategically, economically, or militarily to threaten a country like France, which is one of the main European countries. This is not the diplomatic language that the President should use towards Macron or the European Union. But the truth is that if the European Union makes a decision and cancels the decision on visa liberalization for Kosovo, it would harm the dialogue. I don't think it will go to that point," Demhasaj said.

University Professor Mazllum Baraliu also assesses that institutional leaders should be more cautious in their statements towards the international community. He adds that Macron's statement sounded like an ultimatum to Kosovo and Serbia for progress in the dialogue.

"It was something that sounded like an ultimate, not a simple statement. Maybe the European Union should have seen the consequences of its wrong, unsuccessful, and ineffective policy until now. So maybe there should be a stricter policy, especially towards Serbia. From now on Serbia is mentioned for the first time as a factor that can be sanctioned like Kosovo was sanctioned. Perhaps there are indications in the EU that asymmetry in behavior and privileging of Serbia is not the right way," Baraliu said for Kosovo Press.
