Former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton, who was present at the signing of the Brussels Agreement in 2013, stated to Kosovo online that it is up to the Union to decide who will replace Miroslav Lajcak in that position.
Asked whether Borut Pahor would be a good "replacement" for Miroslav Lajcak, she responded that the former President of Slovenia is certainly an "important player" in what will happen between the EU and the Western Balkans.
She mentioned that she greatly respects Lajcak as an envoy who has done an excellent job.
"I come from a country that is no longer in the EU and cannot interfere in this discussion. It is up to the EU to decide who will replace Lajcak. I have the utmost respect for Pahor. He has done significant work. Whatever the decision, he is an important player in what will happen between the EU and the Western Balkans," Ashton said.
