Donic: US position on ending UNMIK is in line with its policy of withdrawing from projects that bring no benefits

Petar Donic, an associate of the Novi treci put organization, says the US position that the UNMIK mission should be terminated, expressed last night at a UN Security Council session on Kosovo by Tammy Bruce, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Mission to the United Nations, should be viewed in the context of clear indications since the start of President Donald Trump's second term that the United States must withdraw from projects, initiatives and institutions that either do not function or bring the US no benefits.

Donic notes that midterm elections for the Senate and House of Representatives are approaching in the United States, and that the Trump administration wants to provide its political base with either results or messages that align with the messaging from the beginning of his term.

At the UN Security Council session, Bruce also said that the United States wants a stable, peaceful and prosperous Western Balkans. Donic says Trump is indeed very interested in bringing about some change in the region compared with the policy pursued by the Biden administration.

“But so far, nothing of any significance has materialized from the rhetoric heard both at the beginning of this term and toward the end of the previous one,” Donic says.
