Brankovic: The stories about Kosovo's entry into the UN are pointless
Long-time diplomat, Branko Brankovic, assessed that the stories about Kosovo's entry into the United Nations were pointless and that this was impossible as long as the UN, as it is, exists, Novosti reports.
"I am convinced that the Russians and Chinese will never accept it and will veto it in the Security Council. We have five permanent and ten non-permanent members in that body, including countries that do not recognize Kosovo. They do not even have a two-thirds majority in the General Assembly. And when you put it all on the table, the talk about membership in the UN is a utopia. In order to do something about membership, the UN Charter must be changed. It also requires a two-thirds majority, so it's clear that it's empty talk," Brankovic explains.
Brankovic adds that he has been engaged in diplomacy for years and that he has never experienced more frivolous things in international relations, such as when it comes to Kosovo.
"Everyone knows that Kosovo cannot be a state. On the other hand, after the case of Ukraine where Europe made a mistake, but also other parts of the world, nothing will be the same again, because it is clear that the dominance and command policy of the US no longer exist. After all, Europe needs Serbia in the EU, more than we need Europe," Brankovic said.
