Djuric after UNSC session: We gave as good as we got, formation of the CSM should take centre stage in the future
Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric stressed last evening, following a UN Security Council session in New York, that the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities should take centre stage in the future.
“There was a fierce battle over Kosovo and Metohija at the Security Council. We gave as good as we got in response to attempts to turn the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija from victims into perpetrators, to sweep under the rug the terror against Serbs, reflected in more than 100 ethnic incidents during a single UNMIK reporting period, and to portray Kosovo and Metohija as a democratic paradise and Serbia as Mordor, where the rights of every community are disregarded, as the Kurti regime has tried to do,” Djuric stressed in a statement to reporters.
He noted that the political obsession of representatives of the Kurti regime with Aleksandar Vucic and his family had been evident, as had their attempt to justify banning Serbs from voting in Kosovo and Metohija, an issue that no one is talking about anymore.
“An attempt was made to portray the tragedy in Banjska as the sole fault of the Serbs, while sweeping under the rug the fact that three Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija lost their lives, without any opportunity for the Serbian side of the story to be heard. Today, we brought all of this to the attention of the international community at the UN Security Council session,” he stressed.
Djuric said that Serbia's voice had been heard in the highest international body.
He said he had spoken about the attack on Serbian boys on Orthodox Christmas Eve in 2023, which has yet to result in any legal outcome.
“An important issue I addressed, and the one with which I began my statement, was the verdicts of the Specialist Chambers against KLA leaders. I said that we are seeking neither Serbian nor Albanian justice, but objective justice for the Serbian and Albanian victims killed by the KLA in Kosovo and Metohija. The representative of the Kurti regime tried to portray Serbian victims as fabricated. While I was speaking about Serbian and Albanian victims, he insulted Serbian victims by claiming they were fabricated,” Djuric explained.
These are matters we must remain aware of, he said, adding that it was also evident to the international community that the Serbian side had taken an honourable and objective approach to the truth.
“In the future, the formation of the CSM should take centre stage. A child born when the agreement on the CSM was signed is now a teenager. Serbs are living under apartheid, in a constant police protectorate in the north, where they are subjected to daily violations of their most basic rights. I said this loudly and clearly in front of the Americans, Russians and Chinese. Serbia's voice on this issue will be heard forever, just as our desire for justice over Kosovo and Metohija will always burn brightly in our hearts and in our homeland,” Djuric stressed.
He said the Kurti regime's desire to interfere in Serbia's elections had been evident.
“Some might say that, as citizens of Serbia, they have the right to express their views. They want one side to fail and the other to succeed, and they did not hide this even today at the UN Security Council. The Kurti regime mentioned Aleksandar Vucic and his family here as well, in a negative context, and that needs to be known,” the Serbian foreign minister emphasised.
