Brnabic: EP resolutions on Serbia's progress towards the EU are based on impressions, not facts

The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated that the European Parliament's Draft Resolution on the Progress of Serbia for 2022, as well as the Resolution on the Implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union, were based on perceptions, not facts, and that they avoided highlighting or diminishing the importance of what was really done in Serbia.

At a meeting with the permanent rapporteur of the European Parliament for Serbia, Vladimir Bilčik, and the representative of the EP in the Inter-Party Dialogue in Serbia, Matjaž Nemec, Brnabic said that the document did not mention the drafting and adoption of a set of judicial laws whose proposal the Government adopted, the Government of Serbia announced.

She pointed out that the Resolution does not properly assess the fact that Serbia harmonized its visa policy with the EU in a very short period of time.

"Speaking about the Resolution on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, Brnabic particularly pointed out that in that document, completely contrary to the facts, Belgrade and not Pristina is condemned for a series of "escalating moves", in the year in which the prime minister of the temporary institutions in Pristina denied the basic right of Serbs to vote twice, and at the moment when, on Christmas Day, Serbian children were shot in Kosovo and Metohija," the announcement states.

These documents, including the proposed resolution, emphasized the Prime Minister of Serbia, have nothing to do with the facts. She pointed out that, precisely because of this, they affect the attitude of Serbian citizens towards European institutions and the decline of support for Serbia's EU membership.

Regardless of the content of the documents, Brnabic stated, membership in the EU remains Serbia's key priority.

"As Prime Minister, I will continue to implement reforms on our European path because I believe that this is in the interest of all citizens and a better quality of life," Brnabic said.
