Serb List: We will fight to preserve jobs, institutions, and the rights of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija
The expanded presidency of the Serb List adopted six conclusions today, stating, among other things, that it acknowledges the results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia and remains committed to a policy of preserving peace, security, institutional ties with Belgrade and protecting every Serb in Kosovo. The party added that it would fight to preserve the existing jobs held by Serbs in Kosovo, their regular income and Serbian institutions in Kosovo.
The statement says that the Serb List, as the largest political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, with the support of more than 90 percent of the Serb population, acknowledges the preliminary results of Serbia's snap parliamentary elections.
The Serb List said it would continue, as the largest and strongest political organization representing Serbs in Kosovo, to fight resolutely, responsibly and uncompromisingly for the survival, interests, and collective and individual rights of the Serb people.
“The Serb List has nine members of parliament, ten mayors in all ten Serb-majority municipalities, and a two-thirds majority in the assemblies of these municipalities,” the statement said.
One of the conclusions specifically highlights the importance of preserving jobs and employees' regular income, continuing investment and creating new jobs, as well as maintaining social benefits and other forms of financial support for the Serb people from Serbia's budget.
“We clearly emphasize that we will fight to ensure that existing jobs, employees' regular income, continued investment and new employment, as well as social benefits and all other forms of financial support for our people from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, are in no way jeopardized,” the Serb List said.
It added that the economic security of every Serb family, the preservation of jobs and the continued development of Serb communities were matters of fundamental importance for the survival of the Serb people in Kosovo.
The expanded presidency of the Serb List also stressed that full protection must be ensured for all Serbian institutions, particularly the Serbian Orthodox Church, its holy sites and property, as well as healthcare and educational institutions operating within Serbia's system.
“Their existence, uninterrupted operation and funding must not be called into question, as they represent the foundation of the survival, identity and future of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija,” the statement said.
The Serb List called on all political actors in Kosovo, public figures and the media to stop spreading what it described as disinformation, unfounded claims and speculation that cause unrest among the Serb people.
“We call on all political actors in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, public figures and the media to immediately stop spreading disinformation, unfounded claims and speculation that cause unrest among our people, undermine confidence in Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, and create an opportunity for the authorities in Pristina to take further unilateral steps directed against the Serb people and their institutions,” the statement said.
It added that, at this sensitive moment, responsibility, seriousness and unity were essential, rather than spreading fear and uncertainty among citizens.
The conclusions also state that the Serb List remains committed to a policy of preserving peace, security, institutional ties with Belgrade and protecting every Serb in Kosovo.
“Our obligation, arising from the enormous trust placed in us by the Serb people, is to be their reliable political representative and, under no pressure whatsoever, to abandon the fight for their rights, interests and future,” the statement said.
Finally, the party stressed that the Serb List would continue to act responsibly and in unity, guided exclusively by the interests of the Serb people and their survival in Kosovo.
