KFOR on General Grynkewich’s visit: Changes in troop levels and composition to be implemented gradually and in a measured manner
The visit of NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus G. Grynkewich reaffirms NATO’s continued commitment to stability in Kosovo and the wider region, KFOR said today, noting that any changes in troop levels and force composition would be implemented gradually and in a measured manner.
Summarizing General Grynkewich’s visit, KFOR said it had provided an opportunity to discuss the KFOR optimization process, which is based on a shared assessment of positive developments in the security environment.
“Any changes to KFOR’s troop levels and composition will be implemented in a measured and gradual manner. All adjustments will be based on continuous assessments of conditions on the ground and can be reversed in the event of significant security developments that could affect local security and regional stability,” the statement said.
During the visit, General Grynkewich and KFOR Commander Major General Roberto Vannacci met with key representatives of Kosovo institutions and subsequently with representatives of the Serb List.
“These meetings provided an opportunity to reiterate that lasting security ultimately depends on a political solution, inclusive dialogue and cooperation,” the statement added.
The visit concluded at Gracanica Monastery, where the generals met with representatives of religious communities.
“KFOR will remain a reliable guarantor of stability and continue to contribute to a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo, in accordance with its longstanding United Nations mandate, at all times and impartially,” the statement concluded.
