Burjani: As president, Osmani did not achieve any particularly significant success
Political analyst Blerim Burjani stated for Kosovo Online that over the past four years, Vjosa Osmani, as President of Kosovo, has not achieved any particularly valuable success, except in maintaining relations with the US and the EU. At times, he says, she appeared to act as a mediator in Albin Kurti’s relations with the US and the EU, while in domestic politics, she was not very visible.
Osmani was elected President of Kosovo in Parliament on this day four years ago. However, Burjani assesses that she was not active in foreign policy when it came to securing international recognitions for Kosovo and that she did not make a significant contribution in that regard.
"People in Kosovo are not satisfied with her performance over the past four years. She did not play a fundamental role and did not rise to the level of responsibility required by the Constitution. She also did not maintain good relations with the country's legal system. In a way, she obstructed the work of the prosecution by failing to nominate a chief prosecutor, which left the institution operating under an acting official," Burjani explains.
He adds that although Osmani respected political parties, she does not actually have the capacity to engage in politics or political governance.
"She remained silent and simply signed laws passed by the Kosovo Assembly. This silence gave the impression that she struggled to fulfill her constitutional duties. Essentially, she acted as Kurti’s notary, which was widely criticized," the analyst points out.
Considering that Kurti is perceived as having a negative impact on relations with the international community and has been increasingly regarded as an international problem, Burjani notes that over time, he has lost influence on the global stage, and Osmani has taken over that role.
"After her term ends, Osmani could continue her political career within the Self-Determination Movement by becoming part of the movement, as she has no other obligations. However, the question remains whether she will actively engage, which is something she failed to do as president. Instead, she kept to the sidelines, avoided dealing with problems, and remained silent in her office. She could potentially become a vice president of Self-Determination," Burjani concludes.
