Burjani: Wadephul’s visit is welcome, but there is no hope for implementing the Ohrid Agreement
Law professor Blerim Burjani stated, in reference to the visit of German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to Pristina as part of his regional tour, that it is positive the visit took place, as it once again underscored that dialogue with Serbia must occur and that it is high time, as he put it, “for the two states to reconcile politically and internationally.”
Speaking to Kosovo Online, Burjani said that the visit was welcome, although he is not certain about its underlying motive given Kosovo’s current situation, noting that the government is functioning in a technical mandate.
“It is good that the visit to Kosovo took place, so that it can once again be emphasized that dialogue with Serbia must occur and that it is high time for the two states to reconcile on the political and international level,” Burjani told Kosovo Online.
Regarding the Ohrid Agreement, on which Wadephul insisted today, Burjani said he does not believe it will be implemented.
He is also of the view that the concept of the Community of Serb-majority Municipalities is “no longer serious,” and that the dialogue is at an impasse.
“Serbia and Kosovo have not agreed to implement the Ohrid Agreement. There will be no ethnic municipalities in Kosovo, because that is contrary to Kosovo’s Constitution. The idea of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities is no longer serious, and I believe the dialogue is stuck — it is not on the horizon, and there is absolutely no hope that the entire Ohrid package will be implemented. Kosovo is a small state and, in legal terms, does not have the capacity for any kind of special status within the state,” Burjani stated.
